Fashion Shows and Beauty Contests The most alluring activities buzzing around the campus attracting theminds of teenagers are fashion shows and beauty contests. Unfortunately, thecollege campus has become a market place for sex shoppers where advertisers hunt for beautiful faces. "Allah forbids all shameful deeds." (Al-Qur'ân, 16:90). Thus declaring it one of the most devilish plots of satan.
Is it allowed for girls to take part in fashion shows and beauty contest? Let the Qur'ân be the judge,: "Tell the believing women to lower their gazeand guard their modesty AND NOT DISPLAY THEIR BEAUTY." (Al-Qur'ân, 24:31). Girls displaying their Beauties are under the threat of Molestation Allah the Most Wise even explains to us the reason why a woman should not display her beauty. "So that they may not be molested." (Al-Qur'ân, 33:59). No wonder, the highest number of rapes are in western countries where girls wear revealing clothes displaying their beauty. Modesty is Faith The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) has said, "Modesty is Faith." (Bukhari, vol. 1:23). Thus, guarding one's modesty is equivalent to guarding one's faith.
Even Boys are forbidden Many boys argue, "Girls are forbidden to display their beauty but boys are not." Some boys even say, "Atleast we are allowed to watch it." This is wrong.!!!! In fact even boys are told, : "Tell the believing men, to lower their gazeand guard their modesty."(Al-Qur'ân, 24:30). Thus the law of Allah is equal for both. There is a well known narration of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). "A man shouldnot look at the private parts of another man, and a woman should not look atthe private part of another woman." Let us know that the private part of a man are from the navel to the kneeand for a woman her entire body except her face and hands according to some scholars, but according to the rest; it even includes that too. Many Fashion Shows and Beauty Contests are Vulgar The constant bombarding of fashion shows and beauty contests on TV. and inthe media have captured the attention of many youth. The participants in "these shows" are dressed up in a very seductive way, revealing a lot of their body. Clothing in Islam is meant to cover one's body and not to reveal it. "We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness that is best." (Al-Qur'ân, 7:26). Participants add false beauty to themselves The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) cursed the woman who adds some false hair and thewoman who asks for it. The woman who tattoos and the woman who asks for it. (Abu Dawud, vol. II, Hadith 4156). Just a Pomp and glitter of this life All the Pomp and Glitter of the world of fashion are a test and trial fromAllah. Yet many youth seek them dreaming for success. They are lured bycareers like modeling, and acting in films which offer wealth and fame. Suchpeople follow their own desires rather than obey Allah and His Messengers. They strain their eyes in longing for the things that Allah has given forenjoyment to some people. Actually Allah tests them through such splendor of this life. Allaah warns mankind, "Those who desire the life of the present and its glitter, to them we shall pay their deeds there in, without diminution.(But) They are those for whom there is nothing in the hereafter but fire." (Al-Qur'ân, 11:25). Allaah's offers Better Provision These careers may seem to be rosy but in reality they offer nothing but thorns. Many ex-models, musicians, singers and film actors have begunconfessing in public that they do not enjoy the life of glitter anymore. In many countries this industry is ruled by the hidden hand of the Mafia. Manymodels and actors have to pay ransom to the underworld as protection money, some are even under the threat of kidnapping and death. Allah guarantees Provision from Him to all His creatures He says, "Allah enlarges or grants by (strict) measure the provision to whom He pleases and they rejoice the life of this world whereas the life of this world as compared to the hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment." (Al-Qur'ân, 13:26). Fame and Wealth is from Allah Allah has made that which is on the earth, a glittering show to test as towho of us are best in conduct. Yet the wealth and fame is also in His Hands. "Say : O Allah! possessor of the kingdom, You give the kingdom to whom you will and you take the kingdom from who you will and you endue with honour whom you will and you humiliate whom you will, In your hand is the good, you are able to do all things... and you give wealth and provision to whom you will without limit." (Al-Qur'ân, 3:27). He also assures the believers, "The provision of your Lord is better and more enduring." (Al-Qur'ân, 20:131). And He (Allah) provides for him, from (sources) he never could imagine. And if anyone puts his trust in Allah, sufficient is (Allah) for him.(Al-Qur'ân, 65:3). rukaiah (Jun 14, 2001) Quote this article on your site | Views: 113
